about

Mysticisms' presents a 2 x 12" DJ Double Pack of the music of Tokyo Offshore Project. Featuring the productions of Simon Lovejoy, Frankie Valentine and Kiyoshi Myaura, T.O.P released a series of EPs from 1990 to 1994 recorded in London and Tokyo.

A "best of" selection of released and unreleased tracks that cover the nascent UK / Japanese house sound through to Afro, Ambient, Balearic and Street Soul, the compilation brings a step in the evolution of electronic music back on to vinyl for a new generation of DJs, diggers and collectors...

Winter 1990. London, Airport.

Room service, freshen, can't open window. Trip to Nara. 3/4 size, white glove taxi. Minimalist, meet video director, have smoke. City wander. Noodle man. Borrowed smoke, MTV on cable. Bullet train, Zen temple, thinking, peaceful prayers, a gift to Zen God. City recording 3am, street sounds, phone booth, vending machines. Studio, no English, gear manuals in Japanese. Vocal booth, tuning synths, men staring through window. Record shops, club flyers. Breakfast, Atari, drinking milk, stroking Cornelius. Past harbour lights, see David Byrne buying gadgets, get matching DAT Walkman. Karaoke bar, hostess’ filling glasses, singing, on the house, whispers, Love Hotel, bar, restaurant, live fish.
